abstract |
(57) Abstract: An electrochemical cell containing a non-liquid electrolyte that operates efficiently at room temperature. The battery comprises: (a) a non-liquid electrolyte in which protons can move (14); (b) a positive electrode (10) containing an active material based on an organic compound that becomes a source of protons during battery discharge; and (c) a positive electrode. A solid negative electrode (12) comprising a compound that forms an electrochemical pair with the solid negative electrode (12). The active material is selected such that the battery is characterized in that the electrochemical reactions at the positive and negative electrodes are at least partially reversible. An important feature is that no thermal activation is required for battery operation. Thus, the battery operates efficiently at room temperature. |
