abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a negative electrode using a carbon material having no selectivity or restriction on an electrolytic solution and having a small change in potential of lithium ion release, thereby providing cycleability and safety. A main object is to obtain a lithium secondary battery having excellent properties such as the performance. SOLUTION: A part or the whole of an edge portion of a crystal of a core carbon material is coated with a carbon material for forming a coating, and has a substantially spherical or ellipsoidal shape. A carbon material that has a crystallinity of 5 m2 / g or less and has a lower crystallinity than the core carbon material.
