Another object of the present invention is to obtain an optical film optimal as a polarizing plate used for a liquid crystal display device or the like. SOLUTION: An ultraviolet-absorbing copolymer having an ultraviolet-absorbing monomer and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer unit and having a maximum absorption wavelength measured in a methylene chloride solvent of 345 nm or more and 360 nm or less, and the ultraviolet absorption copolymer An optical film comprising an ultraviolet absorber having a maximum absorption wavelength shorter than that of a hydrophilic copolymer by 5 nm or more.
