(57) [Summary] [PROBLEMS] To provide a hydrocarbon conversion method. A method for chemically converting a hydrocarbon feedstock on a fixed bed of solid phosphoric acid catalyst, comprising: (a) immersing the catalyst bed in a start-up fluid; Said step wherein the start-up fluid comprises a hydrocarbon liquid substantially free of water and a compound capable of producing water when contacted with the catalyst; (b) immersing the catalyst bed in the start-up fluid, Establishing temperature and pressure conversion conditions; and (c) replacing the start-up fluid with a hydrocarbon feedstock and passing said feedstock through a catalyst bed under said conversion conditions, wherein the feedstock comprises water and carbon. And 2 to 12 monohydric aliphatic alcohols and at least one substance selected from the group consisting of: Said steps being effective to provide; (D) maintaining the feedstock stream through the catalyst bed under the conversion conditions. |
