SOLUTION: This is a covering member in which a coating 2 is provided on a base material 1. This coating is provided on at least a part of the sliding surface. The coating 2 comprises a layer whose main component is carbon. The covering member is used in the presence of a lubricating oil. It is desirable that the lubricating oil contains an aromatic compound.
