abstract | (57) [Summary] [PROBLEMS] To easily determine a target bacterium even when a bacterium other than the target is mixed in a culture medium, and to easily determine a target bacterium without specialized knowledge. A liquid medium (7) and a carbon dioxide color indicator (8) are accommodated in a container (3) with a bag (4) of a carbon dioxide permeable membrane blocking the liquid medium (7). The liquid medium 7 has a predetermined size such that the time required for a given bacterium to emit a given amount of carbon dioxide by growing from at least the same number of bacteria within a given number of bacteria is shorter than that of another given bacterium. Promotes the growth of bacteria and suppresses the growth of other predetermined bacteria. After the sample to be tested is placed in the liquid medium 7, the container 3 is sealed, and the time from when the container 3 is sealed to when a predetermined concentration of coloring due to the color reaction of the indicator 8 is detected is measured. The number of bacteria is determined by comparing the time with the time from the closing of each predetermined number of bacteria to the detection of a predetermined concentration of discoloration due to the color reaction of the indicator 8. |
