abstract (57) [Problem] To provide an exhaust gas purifying material having a high catalytic activity in burning particulates and a high exhaust gas purifying rate, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This exhaust gas purifying material has a three-dimensional structure in which a large number of exhaust gas channels are formed, and a coating layer containing a catalyst formed on the surface thereof and promoting the combustion of unburned substances in the exhaust gas. The coating layer has a multilayer structure having a noble metal catalyst layer in which a noble metal is supported on an inorganic oxide as a surface layer, and a transition metal catalyst layer containing a transition metal as an inner layer.
