(57) [Problem] To provide a method for producing a polyester capable of polycondensing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and an aliphatic diol with high catalytic activity. SOLUTION: When a polyester is produced by esterifying an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof with an aliphatic diol or an ester-forming derivative thereof and performing polycondensation in the presence of a polycondensation catalyst, the polyester is used as a polycondensation catalyst.
