Kind Code: A1 A nickel positive electrode for an alkaline secondary battery, in which a mixture containing nickel hydroxide surface-coated with α-type cobalt hydroxide, a conductive additive and a binder is carried on a two-dimensionally structured current collector, and A nickel positive electrode for an alkaline secondary battery, wherein the α-type cobalt hydroxide surface-coating the nickel hydroxide of the nickel positive electrode is changed to γ-cobalt oxyhydroxide by initial charging.
