[Classes 1 (i) and 1 (iii)] A hydrocarbon conversion catalyst is prepared by treating amalgamated aluminium with water or dilute acid to produce an alumina sol, converting this to a gel by addition of an electrolyte, separating the gel from the liquid phase, if any, and drying it. As coagulant may be used ammonia or a salt of a promoting metal, e.g. chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, cobalt, nickel, copper, or magnesium. |
