titleOfInvention | Medical balloon |
abstract | A medical balloon assembly (10, figure 1) includes a balloon (20, figure 1) fitted to a balloon catheter (12, figure 1). The balloon includes a balloon wall (which is a co-extrusion) with elongate cutting or scoring elements 60 formed of a different polymer material, which can be a material of the same polymer type or of compatible polymer materials. The cutting or scoring elements in one embodiment extend into the thickness or depth of the balloon wall and in other embodiments may be flattened so as to present a substantially smooth outer surface to the balloon. The cutting or scoring elements extend between first (24, figure 1) and second (26, figure 1) ends of the balloon body member. The scoring or cutting elements may be made of or include radiopaque or echogenic material. |
