abstract A balloon activated force concentrator for use inncooperation with an inflatable angioplasty balloonnincludes at least one elongated flexible panel, annelongated cutting blade mounted on the outside surface ofnthe elongated flexible panel, and an elastic circularnband attached to each end of the elongated flexible panelnfor securing the elongated flexible panel to annangioplasty balloon. Use of this balloon activated forcenconcentrator requires mounting the device on anninflatable angioplasty balloon by inserting the distalnend of the angioplasty balloon through one of thencircular bands. The balloon activated force concentratornis then advanced over the balloon until the secondncircular band reaches the distal end of the balloon. Atnthat point, the elasticity of the circular bands straddlenthe balloon to retain the activated force concentratornsecurely against the outer surface of the angioplastynballoon.
