abstract Compounds of formula (I): wherein R<SP>1</SP> is a substituted or unsubstituted benzene ring or a heteroaromatic ring, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are hydrogen or lower alkyl, R<SP>4</SP> is hydrogen or lower alkoxy, R<SP>5</SP> is hydrogen, lower alkyl or (5-methyl-2-oxo-1,3-dioxol-4-yl)methyl, X is hydrogen, n is 0, 1 or 2 and pharmaceutically acceptable alkali addition salts thereof have activity as inhibitors of cyclooxygenase-2 and can therefore be used as analgesics and anti-inflammatory agents in the treatment of inflammation, pain, fever and arthritis; processes for preparing compounds of formula (I).
