abstract A thickener for carpet screen printing pastes comprises 60 to 0.5 parts by weight of a natural or synthetic water-soluble polymer and 40 to 99.5 parts by weight of a particulate water-swellable cross- linked synthetic polymer, the water- soluble polymer and the water- swellable polymer each having a like charge or one at least of them being non-ionic. Suitable polymers are derived from acrylamide.
