They may be prepared by impregnating a silica/alumina or silica/rare earth support with a Ni, Co or Cu salt, converting to hydroxide and reducing with hydrogen; alternatively the hydroxide or oxide hydrates of all components may be coprecipitated at a pH of 7-8 from an aqueous solution, the precipitate reduced with hydrogen and then calcined.
