abstract | 1373002 Zinc citrate UNILEVER Ltd 25 Jan 1972 [28 Jan 1971] 3362/71 Heading C2C Finely divided zinc citrate is produced by reacting ZnO, preferably at below 45‹ C., with an aqueous solution of at least a stoichiometric amount of citric acid under conditions of acid concentration and of such vigorous agitation that the particles of zinc citrate precipitated have an average particle size on a weight basis of less than 50 Á, separating and washing the zinc citrate with water to remove any citric acid present, removing water from the zinc citrate physically, without change of state, e.g. centrifugally, to such an extent that after the subsequent drying stage the zinc citrate still has an average particle size of less than 50 Á, and drying the zinc citrate at elevated temperature under dynamic conditions, i.e. conditions under which there is relative movement between the particles and air, e.g. in a fluidized bed or in a vacuum oven through which a flow of air is maintained. The products, obtained in the dihydrate form in the examples, may be used in tooth pastes. |
