abstract 1,239,680. Coating wire. CENTRE NATIONAL DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES. Dec. 5, 1969 [Dec. 5, 1968], No.59568/69. Heading C7F. A wire is coated by cathodic sputtering by passing it continuously through a substantially cylindrical bore in a metallic cathode, the wire being made the anode. The cylindrical bore contains a plasma generated in, for example, argon gas, and more than one cylindrical cathode may be used in series to give a thicker coat of the same metal or a multi-layer coat of different metals.
