1,196,049. Polymerizable cyanoacrylate adhesives. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. 7 Nov., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No.50638/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Polymerizable adhesive compositions comprise a mixture of (a) at least one C 1 -C 2 alkyl α-cyanoacrylate and (b) at least one C 4 -C 10 alkyl or C 4 -C 10 cycloalkyl α-cyanoacrylate, the proportion of component (a) being at least 3% but less than 25 % by weight based on the weight of (a) and (b). The adhesive may be stabilized against anionic polymerization by inclusion of a minor amount (e.g. 5-500 p.p.m.) of a Lewis acid such as SO 2 , BF 3 or HF. In an example a mixture of ethyl and nhexyl α-cyanoacrylates is prepared by heating a mixture of ethyl and n-hexyl cyanoacetates with a methanolic solution of formaldehyde in the presence of diphenyl phenylphosphonate and piperidine. |
