titleOfInvention Uprated polyester moulding matls. - with improved hardness and elasticity
abstract Thermoplastic moulding materials are comprised of (A) 5-99 wt. % of an elastomeric segmented copolyester and (B) 95-1% of a linear thermoplastic polyester, such that (a) one of the components of polyester A and polyester B have at least 90% the same ester units and the other component of polyester A is at least 90% amorphous and has a T g of 0 degrees C. The process provides a relatively simple means of uprating polyester moulding materials to give products with improved hardness and elasticity. The materials can be injection moulded or extruded e.g. at 230-280 degrees C into electrical parts, ignition distributor parts, machine guards, bearings, equipment housings, etc. Pref. polyester (A) contains 40-70 wt. % hard segments of polyethylene terephthalate or polybutylene terephthalate and 60-30 wt. % segments of polytetrahydrofuran, and polyester B is a linear polyethylene terephthalate or polybutylene terephthalate with a limiting viscosity of 20-180 ml/g. The compsns. pref. contain fillers such as glass fibre, glass microspheres, asbestos, kaolin, etc. Other possible additives are flame retardants such as tetrabromophthalic anhydride, nucleating agents, antioxidants, pigments, etc.
