Therapeutic compsns. comprise a broad-spectrum antibiotic e.g. tetracyclines or chloramphenicol, and a culture of lactic bacilli resistant to the antibiotics, together with an enzyme diffusing-agent, esp. hyaluronidase or lysozyme. The antibiotics are less likely to induce side-effects due to their action on intestinal flora. Proteases may be used instead of the above enzymes. Pref. lactic bacilli are freeze-dried cultures of lactobacillus acidophilus made resistant to tetracyclines, penicillin, neomycin, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, cathomycin. |
