abstract An apparatus (1) for coating chalcographic printing plates comprising: - a vacuum chamber (3) having an internal space (30) adapted to receive at least one plate (10) for chalcographic printing to be coated; - a vacuum system (4) coupled to the vacuum chamber (3) and which is adapted to create vacuum in the internal space (30) of the vacuum chamber (3); and - a physical vapor deposition system (PVD) adapted to carry out the deposition of wear-resistant coating material under vacuum conditions on an engraved surface (10a) of the chalcographic printing plate (10), such that the physical vapor deposition system (5) includes at least one blank (51, 52) of coating material comprising a source of the wear-resistant coating material to be deposited on the etched surface (10a) of the chalcographic printing plate (10), in which the vacuum chamber (3) is arranged such that the chalcographic printing plate (10) to be coated rests substantially vertically in the space (30) inside the vacuum chamber (3) with its engraved surface (10a) facing in the direction of at least one blank (51, 52) of coating material, and in which the apparatus (1) for printing plate coating calcogr In addition, it also includes a mobile carrier (6) located within the internal space (30) of the vacuum chamber (3) and is adapted to hold and cyclically move the chalcographic printing plate (10) in front of and beyond of the at least one blank (51, 52) of coating material. wherein the mobile carrier (6) is adapted to move the chalcographic printing plate (10) back and forth within the internal space (30) of the vacuum chamber (3) and along a path ( T) of translation in front of and beyond the at least one blank (51, 52) of coating material, and where the mobile carrier (6) is guided along the path (T) of translation by means of rails (61 , 62) of lower and upper guiding which are subject to lower and upper internal walls of the vacuum chamber (3).
