On catalyst support (30), not only are HC and CO contained in diesel engine (10) oxidized with an oxidation catalyst but also NOx is temporarily occluded by a NOx storage catalyst. As a porous honeycomb structure composed mainly of silicon carbide is employed as honeycomb structure (32), the regeneration efficiency of DPF (40) disposed downstream is enhanced as compared with that exhibited in the employment of honeycomb structures composed mainly of cordierite or the like. |
