titleOfInvention | Stabilization of organic polymers against free radicals |
abstract | The invention relates to the use of ceria, in particular in the form of discrete ceria particles having particle sizes in the range of 0.005 to 150 .mu.m, as inorganic radical scavenger for stabilizing organic polymers, in particular in the form of polymer-based formulations, paints, coatings, or the like against which photochemically, thermally, physically and / or chemically induced degradation by free radicals, especially against UV exposure, advantageously in an optional combination with at least one UV absorber and / or at least one further radical scavenger. The radical-induced degradation of the organic polymers is effectively prevented by the use of ceria without the ceria itself being degraded. In the case of using a combination of ceria with an additional UV absorber or scavenger, its time of action is prolonged by the presence of the ceria. |
