The image forming apparatus is manufactured bynforming a plurality of pairs of electrodes (2, 3) onna first substrate (1), forming a polymer filmncontaining a photosensitive material such that thenpolymer film makes a connection between thenelectrodes (2, 3), patterning the polymer film into andesired configuration by the irradiation of light,nlowering the resistance of the patterned polymer filmnto form a conductive film (6'), and forming a gapn(5') in a part of the conductive film (6') by thenflow of a current between the electrodes (2, 3).nSubsequently, the first substrate 1 and the secondnsubstrate on which an image forming member isndisposed are connected through a joining member underna reduced pressure atmosphere to construct an imagenforming apparatus.
