abstract | A magnetic recording medium is disclosed, comprising ansupport having provided thereon a lower layer containing annonmagnetic powder and a binder and further providednthereon at least one magnetic layer containing anferromagnetic powder and a binder, wherein said lower layerncontains as a binder at least a monomer unit comprisingnfrom 5 to 45% by weight of a (meth)acrylate unit containingna benzene ring and from 1 to 45% by weight of a radicalnpolymerizable monomer unit containing a nitrogen atom, withnthese units making a total amount of 100% by weight, andnalso contains an acrylic resin having a hydrophilic polarngroup, and na magnetic recording medium is disclosed,comprising ansupport having provided thereon at least one magnetic layerncontaining a ferromagnetic powder and a binder each in thendispersed state, wherein the magnetic layer contains atnleast a monomer unit comprising from 15 to 75% by weight ofnan alkyl (meth)acrylate as a binder and from 1 to 45% bynweight of a radical polymerizable monomer unit containingnnitrogen, with these units making a total amount of 100% bynweight, and an acrylic resin having a hydrophilic polarngroup is used in combination with (A) a polyurethane resinnhaving a hydrophilic group, obtained by reacting anpolyether polyol containing a cyclic structure and an nalkylene oxide chain and having a molecular weight of 500nto 5,000, a polyol containing a cyclic structure as a chainnextending agent and having a molecular weight of 200 to 500,nand an organic diisocyanate; (B) a polyurethane resinnhaving a hydrophilic polar group, obtained by reacting anpolyester polyol comprising an aliphatic dibasic acid andnan aliphatic diol not containing a cyclic structure havingna branched alkyl side chain, an aliphatic diol containing anbranched alkyl side chain having 3 or more carbon atoms asna chain extending agent, and an organic diisocyanatencompound; or (C) a polyurethane resin having a hydrophilicnpolar group, obtained by reacting a polyol compoundncontaining a cyclic structure and a long alkyl chain withnan organic diisocyanate. |
