abstract The present invention provides a method for the prevention and treatment of viral-inducedntumors, more specifically, human warts. The method uses sandalwood oil and/or derivatives fromnthe sandalwood oil to prepare medicaments for the prevention and treatment of viral-inducedntumors (i.e., warts caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV)) in humans. The method of theninvention comprises the topical administration of the sandalwood oil or a composition derivedntherefrom to the human epidermis and/or to the genital tract as needed. The present invention isnalso concerned with a unique antiviral composition useful for topical application. The antiviralncomposition according to this invention is also effective against other DNA viruses such as thenDNA pox virus that causes Molluscum contagiosum and may be effective against other DNAnviruses such as AIDS virus and RNA viruses. The sandalwood oil compositions are also effectivenagainst genital warts and HPV of the genital tract and will prevent cancer of the skin and cervix.nSandalwood oil or a constituent of sandalwood oil, is also effective in preventing dryness of thenskin, rashes and flakiness associated with seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis and allergic orneczematous rashes of the skin. This oil or constituent is also effective in the treatment of acnenlesions of the face and the body and in the eradication of pustular acne lesions caused bynstaphylococcal acne and streptococcal bacterial infections.
