abstract Runflat tires are generally made by including anstiff insert in the sidewall thereof. This insertnshould be as stiff as possible to help support thenweight of the vehicle to which the tire is mounted innsituations where there is a loss of air pressure.nDuring periods of operation after loss of air pressurenthe stiff insert carries most of the load on the tirenwhich leads to the generation of heat. Heat build-upncan then lead to thermal degradation in the insert. Anreduction in crosslink density and a change in thendistribution of crosslink types is the result of thisnthermal degradation. This invention is based upon thendiscovery that thermal degradation in the inserts ofnrunflat tires can be inhibited by including a bis-citraconimidoncompound therein as an antireversionnagent. This invention more specifically discloses anpneumatic tire having at least one insert to providenthe tire with runflat capability wherein the insert isncomprised of a rubbery polymer and 1,3-bis(citraconimidomethyl)nbenzene. This inventionnfurther discloses a runflat tire which is comprised ofna generally toroidal-shaped carcass with an outerncircumferential tread, two spaced beads, at least onenply extending from bead to bead and sidewallsnextending radially from and connecting said tread tonsaid beads; wherein said tread is adapted to be groundncontacting, wherein said sidewalls contain at leastnone insert radially inward from said ply and whereinnthe insert is comprised of a rubbery polymer and 1,3-bis(citraconimidomethyl)nbenzene.
