A system for sorting particles is arranged such thatnthe presence or absence of multiple parameters (TOTAL,nRARE1, RARE2, RARE3) is determined for each particle inna flow of particles, and a logic condition (R) isndetermined based on the multiple parameters. Thereafter, nparticles are outputted from the system when the logicncondition (R) is present. Accordingly, multiparameternhigh-speed measurements of a rare subpopulation ofnparticles (e.g. biological cells) can be made amidst anlarger population of particles with differingncharacteristics. When attached to a multiparameter flowncytometer/cell sorter (10) and microcomputer, the systemnallows multiparameter analysis of cells at rates innexcess of 100,000 cells/sec. This system can be annoutboard module (12) attached to a commercially availablenor home-built flow cytometer. |
