Process to prepare ε-caprolactam by treatingn6-aminocaproic acid or 6-aminocaproamide or mixturesncomprising these compounds in the presence ofnsuperheated steam in which a gaseous mixture comprisingnε-caprolactam and steam is obtained, wherein thenprocess is carried out in the absence of a catalyst atna temperature between 250 and 400°C and at a pressurenof between 0.5 and 2 MPa. The invention alsonencompasses a process to prepare ε-caprolactam startingnfrom 6-aminocapronitrile by performing a hydrolysis andna subsequent step as described above. |
