Process for purification of aqueous alkali metal chloride solution for removal of iodine |
abstract |
The invention relates to a method for purifying an aqueous solution of alkali metal chloride containing iodine in which it is oxidized to molecular iodine and then adsorbed on activated carbon.n n n By oxidizing the activated carbon with a solution containing active chlorine before adsorbing the iodine, the iodine content of the solution can be lowered to 0.05 mg / l.n n n The invention is particularly useful for purifying sodium chloride brines which are electrolyzed in membrane cells. |
