An enclosure for an implantable medical device (10) comprises a substantially hermetic container consisting of a shield (14) which is preferably deep drawn titanium sheet, and which has a flange around its opening, and a lid (12) welded to the flange of the shield. The container is received within a shroud (26) formed from a soft conformal material such as a synthetic rubber. The shroud has a cavity (21) which receives the container but leaves the lid (12) exposed to the body of the patient. The shroud provides connector structure (32,34,38,40) for connecting the implantable medical device to a lead. Electrical components (16,18) of the device are preferably received within an insulating cup (24) positioned between lower and upper insulating sheets (20,22). |
