abstract The invention relates to novel humanized monoclonal antibodies comprising an artificial modified consensus sequence, at least for the FRs (framework regions) of the heavy chain variable region of a human immunoglobulin. The invention further relates to corresponding humanized and chimeric monoclonal antibodies which bind to epitopes of epidermal growth factor, where the responsible hypervariable regions have the following amino acid sequence: Light chain: CDR-1: -Ser -Ala-Ser-Ser-Ser-Val-Thr-Tyr-Met-Tyr-; CDR-2: -Asp-Thr-Ser-Asn-Leu-Ala-Ser-; CDR-3: -Gln-Gln-Trp-Ser-Ser-His-Ile-Phe-Thr- Heavy chain: CDR-1: -Ser-His-Trp-Met-His-; CDR-2: -Glu-Phe-Asn-Pro-Ser-Asn-Gly-Arg-Thr-Asn-Glu-Lys-Phe-Lys-Ser-; CDR-3: -Arg-Asp-Tyr-Asp-Tyr-Asp-Gly-Arg-Tyr-Phe-Asp-Tyr-. Antibodies can be used for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes.
