titleOfInvention | Inflatable balloon for treatment of retinal detachments |
abstract | Inflatable balloon (34) intended for the treatment of retinal detachments. The balloon (34) has a hollow elliptical body (36), a solid base (38) and a solid cylindrical rod (40). To introduce the balloon into the episcleral space, pass a thin needle (52) with a foam end in the longitudinal direction through the solid base (38) and the rod (40) of the balloon (34). Next, the needle (52) is used to properly position the balloon (34), then inflated with a sterile solution to cause the necessary degree of scleral wrinkling. The needle (52) is withdrawn while the rod (40) and the base (38) retain the solution in the body (36) of the balloon (34), and part of the cylindrical rod (40) is cut to give it the desired length. |
