An aromatic polyester having a melt viscosity of 10 poise (1 Pas) or more at 320°C and a shear rate of 100s -1 , which polyester comprises:n (a) 2 to 40 mole % of 2,6-na.phthalenedicarboxylic acid units of formula (1):n (b) 0 to 40 mole % of terephthalic acid units of formula (2):n (c) 3 to 40 mole % of 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl units of formula (3):n (d) 2 to 40 mole % of at least one member selected from the aromatic diol units of formulae (4) to (8):n n n n n and (e) 20 to 80 mole % of p-hydroxybenzoic acid units of formula (9):n and an aromatic polyester-amide having a melt viscosity of 10 poise (1 Pas) or more at 320° C and a shear rate of 100s -1 , which polyester-amide comprises: (k) 2 to 50 mole % of 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid units of formula (19):n (I) 0 to 45 mole % of terephthalic acid units of formula (20):n (m) 2 to 50 mole % of 4,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl units of formula (21):n (n) 0 to 75 mole % of p-hydroxybenzoic acid units of formula (22):n and (o) 1 to 30 mole % of units of formula (23):n wherein X is an oxygen atom or a carbonyl group; and R is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms. |
