Disclosed herein is a process for the electro-reduction of aromatic acids comprising reducing an aromatic carboxylic acid electrolytically in an aqueous acidic solution (2) the use of a material of a low oxygen overvoltage as the anode (3) for oxygen generation, thereby producing the corresponding benzyl alcohol in high yield in a single electrolytic apparatus (1). |
