abstract |
Disclosed is a process for producing erythritol by cultivating microorganisms under aerobic conditions. n An appropriate concentration of dissolved oxygen (i.e.: not less than 0,2 p.p.m.) is monitored. n By means of a cell separating device (5) a clarified liquid is continuously withdrawn from the fermentation tank (1), whereas a limited fraction of the cells is allowed to bleed out of the fermentation system. n The cell separator (5) may be arranged in an external loop or inside the fermentation tank (1). n The process is monitored so as to maintain the cell concentration in the fermentation tank between 40 and 200 g/l (dry weight). n The erythritol is recovered from said clarified liquid. |
