titleOfInvention Process for the condensation of aldehydes
abstract Aldehydes can be condensed with ketones or naldehydes to produce higher aldehydes or ketones by ncontacting the materials to be condensed with a non-nzeolitic molecular sieve. The condensation may be ncarried out in the presence of hydrogen to give as nproduct a saturated aldehyde or ketone. The ketone nand/or aldehyde may be generated in situ by ndehydrogenation of an alcohol, and the hydrogen thus nliberated used to effect hydrogenation of the immediate nunsaturated product of the condensation, thereby nproducing as the final product a saturated aldehyde or nketone. The non-zeolitic molecular sieves can achieve nimproved conversion rates and selectivities as compared nwith conventional catalysts for the reaction.
