titleOfInvention | Process for the preparation of amides of glycolic acid |
abstract | A new process gives glycolic acid amides of the general formula (I) <IMAGE> in which R¹ and R² independently of one another for alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, for optionally substituted cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl, for haloalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkylthioalkyl or alkoxy, for aralkyl or for optionally substituted aryl, or R¹ and R² together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached represent an optionally substituted, saturated or unsaturated heterocycle which may contain further heteroatoms, in a smooth reaction by using chloroacetamides of the general formula (II ) <IMAGE> in which R¹ and R² have the meaning given above, with potassium carbonates in the presence of an aprotic amide as diluent and optionally in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst to give symmetrical carbonates of the formula (III) <IMAGE> in which R¹ and R² the have the meaning given above, and either according to the previous one Isolation in a separate 2nd stage or without intermediate isolation directly in the one-pot process by reaction with a primary alcohol (i.e. by transesterification) in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide as a catalyst. The glycolic acid amides (I) are known and can be used as intermediates for the preparation of herbicidal active compounds. |
