abstract Macrolide antibiotic erythromycin A and its propionic ester (2'-propanoate), both possessing basic properties, have been salified with acetylsalicylic acid and with alpha-mercaptopropionyl-glycine (thiopronine), thus yielding novel compounds in which antipyretic and antiinflammatory or respectively mucolytic and hepatoprotective activity of the anionic moiety acts as adjuvant to the therapeutic activity of the antibiotic cation in infective fevers, rheumatic disease and respiratory infections.
