abstract | Concentrates (I) for use in plastics contg. additives (II) dispersed in a polymeric binder consisting of mainly aliphatic homo- or co-polycarbonate or sequential block (co)polymer-polycarbonate (III), with wt. ratio (III):(II) = (3:1)-(1:10). (III) is specifically a homo- or co-polycarbonate of formula -(O-CO-O-R1)n-, a sequential block polycarbonate of formula A-B-A, B-A-B or (A-B)x, or a sequential block copolycarbonate of formula -(B-T-L)p- (with n = at least 20; R1 = -(CH2)m- (with m = 3-12), -CH2CH2CHMe-, -CH2CH2OCH2CH2-, -CH2CH2OCH2CH2OCH2CH2-, -CH2CHMeCH2CH2C(Me)2CH2-, -CH2-R-CH2- (with R = 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene, perhydrodicyclopentadienylene or 3,3-oxetanylene), -CH2CMe2CH2-, -CH2C(Et)(n-Bu)CH2-, -CHR2CH2O-Phe-CMe2-Phe-OCH2CHR2- (with R2 = H or Me; Phe = 1,4-phenylene) or -CH2-C(Et)(CH2OCH2CH=CH2)-CH2-; x = 1-20, pref. 1-10; A = residue of homopolymer and styrene, vinylnaphthalene, isopropenylnaphthalene, 1,3-butadiene or isoprene, pref. styrene or 1,3-butadiene; B = residue of polycarbonate of formula (III); blocks A and B have mol. wt. above 800, pref. above 1000, esp. pref. above 10,000 (same or different), and amts. are 5-95 wt.% A and 95-5 wt.% B, pref. 5-20 wt.% A and 95-80 wt.% B or 5-20 wt.% B and 95-80 wt.% A; p = 1-20, pref. 1-10; L = a polymer segment on a lactone of formula (IV) (with R3-R6 = H, 1-6C alk(ox)yl, 3-6C alkenyl or (1-6C alkenoxy)-(1-6C alkyl), esp. H, Me or Et; m, n = 0-6); T = middle section contg. cyclic carbonate of formula (VA) and/or (VB) and lactone (IV) in polymerised form (with tapered structure in which the concn. of (VA/B) decreases continuously towards L and the concn. of (IV) decreases towards B; blocks B, T, L have mol.wt. above 800, pref. above 1000); R2 = -(CH2)q- (with q = 4-12), -CH2CH2OCH2CH2- or -CH2CH2OCH2CH2OCH2CH2-); pref., (III) has mol.wt. 2000-500,000, esp. pref. 5000-120,000, with R1 = -CH2-CMe2-CH2- or -(CH2)y (with y = 3, 4 or 6) and block L contg. the ester residue of formula -COO-(CH2)5-; (II) are fillers, pigments, lubricants, blowing agents, stabilisers, fire retardants, antistatics and light stabilisers. USE - As additives for polymers, pref. thermoplastics, by melt-compounding with 0.5-50 (pref. 1-30) wt.% (I); pref. plastics are polyesters, polyamides, polycarbonates and copolymers e.g. ABS, MBS, PVC or ABS/polycarbonate mixts. |
