| abstract |
Drilled holes in printed circuit boards act as through contacts for the metallic conductor tracks. The through contacts are produced in one operation by directing a focussed beam of high- energy radiation on the board, which is a material on a carbon basis, to the exclusion of chemical oxidators. This produces a conductive sleeve of carbon particles along the inside surface of the hole which is either used itself as the through contact or forms the base for an electroplated coating of metal. This is a simple method of producing through contacts in non- conductive printed circuit boards. |
