By using a prodegradant of the same physical form as the (submarine) oil spill, aeration and subsequent degradation of otherwise un-aerated spills is possible. Rapid decompsn. of the carrier prevents further pollution. The pref. oxygen carrier is H2O2 and, depending on the substrate, is used in concns. of 0.1-10 wt.% To aid miscibility and accelerate degradation, surfactants and N- and P-contg. nutrient salts respectively may be added to the H2O2. |
