titleOfInvention Hydrophobic finely divided silicic acid - by reaction - with organo-alkoxy (poly)sil(ox)ane
abstract The silicic acid, obtd. by pyrolysis or by pptn. with acid from a soln. of alkali silicate, is activated by heat treatment at 700-1000 degrees C for 60 secs. and mixed with an organoalkoxy silane, RnSi(OR)4-n (where R is 1-6C alkyl or aryl, R' is 1-8C alkyl and n is 0-3) or a polysiloxane R-X(Y)Si-O- X(Y)Si-O -nX(Y)SiR (where X and Y are R or OR') in a vortex bed using a stream of inert gas to render the surface of the finely divided acid hydrophobic. The product contains -Si-H grps. chemically bound on its surface which widen its possible uses esp. in the prodn. of silicon rubbers. The product is neutral and the finish permanent.
