A process is disclosed for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion by radical-initiated polymerisation of radically polymerisable compounds (I) which are moderately water-soluble. Besides the compounds (I), the dispersed polymer particles also contain compounds (II) which are hardly water-soluble. For that purpose, an aqueous emulsion (I) with a droplet size </= 500 nm is generated from a mixture which consists of a portion of compounds (I) and of compounds (II), and at least part of the aqueous emulsion (I) is continuously supplied as a supply (I) to the polymerisation vessel, where it is continuously radically polymerised. The continuous supply (I) is at least temporarily supplemented by a supply (II) of another portion of compounds (I) or of an emulsion thereof (II) with a droplet size >/= 1000 nm. |
