abstract |
The prodn. of chitosan comprises the deacetylation of chitin at elevated temp. in an alkaline medium contg. 0.3-2.5 pts. wt. alkali hydroxide and 0.3-3 pts. wt. water to 1 pt. wt. chitin, together with an inert, OH gp.-contg. organic solvent (I) which is partly or completely miscible with water. Also claimed is the chitosan obtd. by this process, with a degree of deacetylation of more than 70%. |
