An electrically switchable privacy window can reversibly change its state between a transparent and a non-transparent state by applying an alternating electric field. The privacy window comprises two transparent glass panes (1, 11), two electrically conductive layers (3, 9) provided with power supply electrodes, and a liquid crystal layer (6) arranged between the electrically conductive layers. The glass sheets (1, 11) are sealed at the edge by an adhesive sealing compound and connected to each other. On both sides of the electrically conductive layers (3, 9), a respective dielectric layer (2, 4; 8, 10) of SiO 2 is arranged. The dielectric layers (2, 4, 8, 10) serve to insulate and act as barriers preventing interaction between the glass surfaces and the liquid crystal layer (6). |
