abstract |
An assay result reading apparatus for reading the result of an assay performed using a liquid transport carrier, the apparatus comprising: at least one light source capable of emitting light on at least one of two or more spatially separated zones on the support; a photodetector arranged to be capable of detecting emitted light from each of the two zones and generating signals indicative of the presence or absence of a liquid sample in the respective zone; and a calculation circuit that responds to the signals to: calculate the flow rate for a liquid flowing along the support; compare the calculated flow rate with upper and lower limits; and to discard the assay result if the calculated flow rate is outside of the upper and lower limits, the carrier having a porous carrier. |
