titleOfInvention METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF OLIGOMERES, C-NH-C-LINKED AMINO-1-HYDROXY-ALKAN-1,1-BISPHOSPHONESAEURES AND THEIR MONOMERS
abstract The invention relates to a process for the preparation of oligomeric, C-NH-C-linked amino-1-hydroxy-alkane-1,1-bisphosphonic acids having 2-8 C atoms and their monomers from corresponding aminoalkanecarboxylic acids or their salts or derivatives and mixtures from phosphoric acid and phosphorus (III) oxide at temperatures of about 370 K and subsequent hydrolysis of the reaction mixture. The method is widely variable with respect to the ratio of oligomeric amino-1-hydroxy-alkane-1,1-bisphosphonic acids to their monomers, depending on the molar ratio P406: H3PO4 in the starting reaction mixture. Total yields, based on phosphorus (III) oxide, of 75-98% are obtained. Oligomeric amino-1-hydroxy-alkane-1,1-bisphosphonic acids and their monomers are excellent chelating agents and can be used for water softening, in hydrometallurgy and mineral processing, as well as in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries and in clinical medicine.
