abstract The present invention relates to a process capable of obtaining homogeneous high molar mass polymers from cyclic imino ether monomers. The method includes the steps of: a) providing a first liquid reaction mixture containing a cyclic imino ether monomer and an optional solvent; b) polymerizing the cyclic imino ether monomer in the first reaction mixture by cationic ring opening polymerization to produce a polymerized first reaction mixture containing (i) the polymeric material and (ii) solvent and/or unreacted cyclic imino ether monomer; c) the solvent and/or unreacted cyclic imino ether monomer d) combining the isolated unreacted cyclic imino ether monomer and/or the isolated solvent with the other components to provide a cyclic imino-containing a second liquid reaction mixture of ether monomer and solvent; and e) polymerizing the cyclic imino ether monomer in the second reaction mixture by cationic ring opening polymerization. The present invention also provides a polyoxazoline polymer containing at least 50 wt.% of repeating units derived from 2-substituted 2-oxazoline monomers selected from 2-substituted 2-oxazoline monomers -Methyl-2-oxazoline, 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline, 2-n-propyl-2-oxazoline, 2-isopropyl-2-oxazoline and combinations thereof, the The polymer has a DP of at least 250 and a very low degree of dispersion.
