abstract |
Provided herein are compositions comprising a block copolymer of the formula: [A]-B-[Q], wherein [A] is a polymer having an affinity for a substrate; B is a linking group, the linking group [Q] comprises optionally substituted polyvalent linking groups having a molecular weight not exceeding 1000 g/mole; and [Q] comprises a semi-crosslinked ungelled polymer derived from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer combined with Copolymerization of multifunctional ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The block copolymers are crosslinked via the [Q] segments, but are not macroscopically gelled. The [Q] segment is hydrophilic and has a degree of polymerization ranging from about 10 to about 10,000. The [A] segment is located on at least one end of the block copolymer and comprises between about 1 and about 200 repeat units. The block copolymer is associated via the linear substrate-associated segments with a surface comprising at least one hydrophobic site, such as a silicone hydrogel. The polymer can be incorporated into the formulation used to prepare the silicone hydrogel, or can be contacted with the silicone hydrogel after it is formed. |
